I don’t drive and I carry a student type backpack with me whenever I go anywhere, which weighs on average about seven pounds though sometimes I am laden down much more heavily with groceries, etc. About the only time I do not take my backpack with me when I leave home is when I’m simply walking for exercise and enjoyment. But if I am walking for exercise, why should that be the only occasion of not carrying weight? After viewing a video of a lady a little bit older than myself extolling how much she and other ladies enjoyed using a weighted vest for fitness and weight loss, and I decided to give that a try in hopes that it is a more ergonomic way to carry weight at times when I don’t actually need to be carrying stuff in a backpack.

This is a well made piece of gear made of neoprene and seems to be filled with sand. There is a piece of elastic at the bottom of the arm holes on either side to help it to flex for putting on and taking off. Its only adjustment point is the chest strap which has a slide adjustment. It does not need to be tight, it can be relatively loose and still do its job. I do not think this size is for men unless it is a small man. I am a large framed woman of normal weight and I feel like this fits me snugly but acceptable. I also feel the ten pound weight of the vest suits me well because it’s a bit heavier than my everyday basic load when wearing my backpack but not too much more especially since the weight of the vest is much better centered over my center of gravity than my backpack is.

Today I had the first major opportunity to give this vest a try, a very beautiful early fall day when a friend wanted to go for a walk. We ended up walking about six miles. I found it easy to wear. It does make walking feel like a bit more work than if I didn’t have it on but is pretty comfortable. On the moderate day I was not too warm in the neoprene vest, It did not chafe in any way. I did not get to wear the thing for the whole 6 miles though.

After a mile and a half I offered to my friend to feel what the vest was like and helped her put it on. She never did give it back until we were actually approaching my house; she liked how it made her instinctively want to stand straighter to balance the weight, and the idea that she could get more exercise without taking any more time than the walk would otherwise talk also appealed to her. By the end of the walk she wanted to know what it cost and was interested in getting one of her own, though she was still on the fence about whether it was worth it to her for about thirty dollars. I pointed out to her that it can also be worn when she does aerobics at the gym, though she fretted that it might make her look bulky like a football player. To me she looks fine. I think vanity is a sin and people worry too much what they look like. Working to improve your basic health is admirable. My friend and I are both well into middle age which is a time off life when habits of strength building exercise matter more than ever for staying mobile and thriving in old age. We also both consider exercise to be important to our cognitive and brain health.

Next time I will go out walking without her and no one will take the vest from me.

This is my second weight vest, my first being more like a plate carrier with up to 50lbs of pouches added to it. I wanted something a little more suited for jogging and this harness design with the bright color and reflective elements seemed like a good option. It was very close to being a perfect solution, but there are a couple things that hold it back.

Aside from the adjustable buckle across the chest, the only other parts of the harness that have any give are two elastic straps along the underarm. It’s just not enough to get a fully comfortable fit and I’m not a bulky framed person. If you’re large or muscular, you may struggle to even get your arms through it.

I can get the vest on and fastened, but I find it digs into my should blades and there’s very little I can do to situate it in a way that doesn’t do that. Even when I do, it’s only when stationary, so defeating the purpose.

I’ll have to keep looking, but if you’re a smaller framed individual this might be a really good option for you.

This weighted vest looks sleek and feels well-made with a sturdy build and reflective stripe. It’s easy to put on, and the adjustable buckles snap securely into place for a comfortable initial fit. However, after a few minutes, the weight shifts under the armpits, causing my arms to press uncomfortably against the vest, whether moving or standing still. This design flaw makes it hard to imagine wearing it for extended walks or workouts. Walking with arms raised or hands on hips might help, but those positions aren’t practical for exercise. If the design were adjusted for better weight distribution and comfort, this could be a five-star product. For now, it falls short for prolonged use.

I recently incorporated this 10-pound weighted vest into my routine, and for anyone looking to level up their fitness without making a massive jump in intensity, the 10lb weight is a great entry point—it’s noticeable enough to challenge you but not so heavy that it compromises your form or leads to early fatigue.

The vest itself is fantastic. It’s snug, comfortable, and, crucially, doesn’t bounce or shift when I’m moving quickly. It’s easily adjustable and has only one simple plastic buckle to keep it secure on your torso. The weight distribution feels even and natural, making it feel less like an awkward accessory and more like a natural extension of my body. It’s built tough and looks like it will easily handle years of sweat and hard training.

The versatility of the vest is what truly makes it worth the investment. It’s ideal for:
    1. Calisthenics: Instantly boosts the challenge of bodyweight staples. My push-ups, air squats, and lunges now feel significantly more demanding, helping me break through plateaus in strength training without needing external dumbbells or barbells.
    2. Cardio & Conditioning: When I take it on my daily walk or easy run, I find my heart rate climbs faster, maximizing calorie burn in the same amount of time. It’s an efficient way to turn low-impact activities into high-intensity training sessions.
    3. General Activity: Even wearing it while doing chores around the house or climbing stairs gives me a low-key, continuous resistance workout that helps improve overall endurance and potentially aid in bone density over time.

This 10lb vest is perfect for adding functional resistance to nearly any movement. If you’re serious about progressive overload in your home or gym workouts, this vest is a terrific, comfortable, and effective tool. Highly recommended!
